Is this how to treat a neighbor and great ally? We have a trade surplus with Canada.
The only two entities I can think of that have threatened the “ruination” of Canada in the last 70 years are Al Qaida and the current US President. https://t.co/DaMXnzqUad

Trump's auto tariff threat against Canada is nothing new. This is merely the most dire way he has expressed it.
He also said today that he sees this particular threat as an effective bargaining tool, claiming other countries just give in whenever he raises it.

Many Canadians are bewildered over the US president's cacophony. US has a beneficial trade surplus with Canada with existing trade agreements. Why is he misleading and mudding the water with an allie.https://t.co/2QondBkqpn

So, how large does our trade SURPLUS with Canada have to be for them to no longer be "taking advantage of us"? https://t.co/uNOczuUJNu

US has been running a modest trade surplus with Canada on a huge volume of trade. But can anyone tell me what happened to US-Canadian trade in 2008/9? Was it simply that the great recession hit the US so much worse than Canada? Construction tanked in US? @SoberLook @Brad_Setser pic.twitter.com/qagyr7hA4w

Have no idea what Trump is trying to achieve. The US has a trade surplus with Canada. Even Trump's own website says so. Why is he lying to the American people and why do Americans believe him? https://t.co/KLpwHB2W8H pic.twitter.com/8VCMrhfedx
