See the article below.
MLB Pipeline has Connor Norby as the #7 second base prospect and Coby Mayo as the #4 third base prospect. With Henderson, Holliday, and Westburg, where are these guys going to play? Mayo may have potential at 1B.
Colton Cowser is the #9 outfield prospect. With Hays, Mullins, and Santander playing every day, where’s the room for him?
Samuel Basallo is the #2 catching prospect. Where does he play. (I certainly don’t want the Orioles to trade Mayo or Basallo.)
Jackson Holliday is the #1 shortstop prospect and the Orioles will find room for him. I think it will be at second base. From what I have read, Gunnar Henderson is better than him defensively.
from the article: “You also don’t want your prospects to become stale. There comes a point once a player has kind of done everything they can do in the minors, developmentally there is a not a lot to be gained by spending more time in the minors. Also sometimes trade values get effected by that. So, one of the challenges that I do think the Orioles face is you want to make the right deal, you don’t want to overpay, and all those things makes sense. But at the same time, you look at the Norfolk team that finished the year that won the title in Triple-A and you see players there that if they spend another full year in Norfolk next year, will their value be diminished?”
