Covers: Security (Etta James song)
“Security” was recorded by Etta James in 1967. It is being used in a current Google commercial. It was originally recorded in 1964 by Otis Redding who wrote it. I recommend Second Hand Songs where I got the list of versions which the first link takes you to.
Covers: Flamingos Fly
“Flamingos Fly” by Van Morrison was released on his 1977 album A Period of Transition. The album took a beating critically because people expected more after Morrison hadn’t released a new album in several years but it’s not bad. One of the best songs is “Flamingos Fly” which Morrison actually wrote in 1973. There were several versions recorded before his was released including his own slower one.
Covers: Wichita Lineman
“Wichita Lineman” is a Jimmy Webb composition that was a hit for Glen Campbell in 1968. R.E.M. made an unlikely cover version in 1994.
Covers: American Tune
“American Tune” is a 1973 Paul Simon song. It was just performed by Rhiannon Giddens with Simon on guitar.
Covers: Dear Prudence
“Dear Prudence” is a 1968 Beatles song on the White Album. See the video on how the drums were recorded and who is playing them.
Covers: Rainy Night in Georgia
Covers: One Way or Another
Covers: A World Without Love
Covers: Evangeline
“Evangeline” was first performed by The Band and Emmylou Harris in a studio session in The Last Waltz film. I love the cover by two former Band members, Levon Helm and Rick Danko.
