“Heat Wave (Martha and the Vandellas song)” seems like the right song for a day when the heat index is 110. The original is a great 1963 Motown record. Linda Ronstadt and Phil Collins covered it. None of the covers compare to the original.

“Here Comes the Night” by Bert Berns may be the only song associated with Van Morrison that he didn’t write. His group Them had a hit with it in 1965 and he also performed it solo. I love his version on 1974’s It’s Too Late to Stop Now. Lulu released a version in 1964.

Covers: Somewhere (West Side Story song)
“Somewhere” , written by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim, was originally in the 1957 musical West Side Story which was filmed in 1961. I remember the 1966 Len Barry cover best but maybe that’s because he was from Philadelphia and I lived in the suburbs there.
