Orioles brutal loss on Wednesday reminded me of one from 1986

On Wednesday, June 18th, the Orioles lost to the Rays 12-8 after having an 8-0 lead in the second inning. They didn’t even get a hit after the second.

It reminded me of a game in 1986 when they lost to the Rangers 13-11 even though the Orioles hit two grand slams in a 9-run inning. I listened to that game on the radio.

It also reminded John Eisenberg of the 1986 game:

Instagram posts on Orioles Opening Day in 1983

Follow the Baltimore History Channel on Instagram. They post good stuff.

I am going to Opening Day today. I’ve been to around 10-15 home openers. Here are Instagram posts on the 1983 Orioles Opening Day. I was there for that one.

Plaques for home runs that hit Eutaw St. at Camden Yards

Plaques are placed on Eutaw St. where home runs by either team are hit. I saw Holliday’s grand slam in 2024.

Jackson Holliday’s 1st MLB home run (a grand slam) is now commememorated with its permanent plaque on #Orioles’ Eutaw Street at Camden Yards

The Orioles hit 60 home runs in June

They also scored 163 runs. Their record was 17-12 in a month with one day off and tough opponents.

An Orioles fan made a great one-handed catch

He held his phone and a bottle in one hand as he caught the foul ball with the other hand. He was an outfielder in high school. Great job!

Even the New York Post covered it though it had nothing to do with the Yankees or Mets

The Orioles had early draft picks but they used them well

The Orioles, Tigers and Pirates have all had two #1 overall picks recently. Where are the other two teams. The Orioles have done well on picks that weren’t #1 overall – Jorand Westburg was #30 and Gunnar Henderson was #42.

One of the posts below notes that the Orioles did try to win in 2018 and sold off only once the team did poorly.

The Orioles have a condiment race

The Orioles have been having an animated condiment race on the scoreboard during the games. On May 27, 2024 (and I was there), they surprised us and did the race in person for the first time.

They also gave away t-shirts. I got the yellow one and bought the other two on eBay.
