Younger readers have probably never seen a black and white TV but they used to be very common. My family didn’t have a color set until around 1971 when I was 18. I didn’t have my own TV until I was working. I bought a 19-inch black and white TV at Two Guys in 1979 for $119 ($515 today).
I was in a bar with coworkers playing a trivia machine in the 1980s when the question came up – what color was Gilligan’s shirt – red, blue or yellow? I didn’t know. It was always gray to me. It’s very strange watching shows like Hogan’s Heroes now on MeTV in color when I saw them in black and white in the 1960s.
