The Netanyahu debate at my alma mater

I graduated from Cheltenham High School in 1971. I am very opposed to Netanyahu’s policies.

Cheltenham School District officials & alumni association members met Friday & discussed a student petition to remove Bibi Netanyahu from the Hall of Fame, but didn’t make a decision.“Given the complexities involved & the heightened public discourse, we must proceed in a deliberate manner.”

It’s going to be impossible to rebuild the government after Trump

The employees and all of their knowledge will be gone – they will have moved on to other jobs or retired

Trump will have gotten rid of the buildings

I assume that the Trump administration will have destroyed paper and digital records so there will be no history or baseline to start from.

Nobody will want to work for the federal government. There is no job security. A future Republican administration can get rid of them and their work. The Supreme Court is Trump’s accomplice.

Republicans will try to block funding to rebuild agencies. Their increase to the debt from their tax cuts for rich people will also make it harder to get funding.

Absolutely this. It requires intention, infrastructure and resources. And it requires holding those who did it accountable

Supreme Court lets Trump destroy the federal govt while waiting to decide if it’s ok to destroy the federal govt. What am I missing here? How does this get put back together again? How many lives are destroyed before we find out if it’s legal? What msg to future leaders?www.cnn.com/2025/07/14/p…

Thanks to @brianbeutler.bsky.social for handing me the keys to his newsletter to talk about why the anti-Trump coalition needs to be thinking now about rebuilding the government once he leaves office — and about why we'll fail if we're too timid or play conventional budget politics.

My reply to a Washington Post Bluesky post on Trump’s influence

The Post has been part of the problem. They have some good writers but their ownership and leadership has shifted to right. Many Post employees have left. I trust their judgement.

I knew the Supreme Court would cave in to Trump but I have been very disappointed by the behavior of some law firms and universities. They will learn that Trump treats compliance as weakness and will keep asking for more.

"Trump's influence over the Republican Party’s base and showman’s command of the bully pulpit might allow him to exert unusual influence over the nation’s direction," the Editorial Board writes. wapo.st/44GbYoS

He has been helped by the cowardice of mainstream media, law firms, universities and the Supreme Court. Polls show that most of his policies are popular only with his cult. Still, he has defied popular opinion and the law to impose them on us.

Trump’s budget cuts are bad for rural medical care

Hospital closings, flood victims unable to get rebuilding permits and medical/housing insurance, Abbott comparing dead children to football championship games, and Cruz stating these same lost children were simply “God’s will,” will follow the TXGOP into the midterms.2026 is coming. Be ready. 🗳️

Because of Donald Trump and Republicans, rural hospitals across America are on the verge of closing. This is real and it must be shared everywhere. http://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcn…

Medicaid cuts in Trump bill put rural Marylanders’ care on the line

Why should anyone expect Trump to follow the law?

Fact Check: The Bill does not give FOTUS the authority to delay or cxl elections

You’re assuming Trump obeys laws. He has shown repeatedly that he will break or ignore the law. He’s a convicted felon. I expect Democrats to be favored to win the House in 2026. I expect Trump to try to oppose that by preventing or invalidating elections or declaring a bogus emergency.

Reagan was a bad president

The megabill's war on the poor is built on a decades-old lie. Ronald Reagan's mythic "welfare queen" turned voters against social programs. #VoteHellNo http://www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnb…

So back in the 1980’s when Reagan shut down mental health care, remember the buses of homeless dumped in US Cities? This reduction in funding led to the closure of many state mental hospitals and the release of patients into communities with limited resources and support systems. It was overnight.💔

I literally argued with a with a staunch Reagan loving republican friend in 1995 who couldn't understand why Reagan wasn't a great president. Sure, he had moments, all politicians do, but he ruined the future of America.

Trump’s cuts to cancer studies

As a two-time cancer survivor, I am appalled by this.

Around $170 million in cuts were for studies of cancer, which remains the second leading cause of death in the United States, claiming more than 600,000 lives each year. Cuts in cancer research will cost lives by delaying the discovery of cures and better methods…www.nytimes.com/interactive/…
