It was originally “Hollywoodland”.
A rare colour photo of the HOLLYWOODLAND sign.

In 1949, the LA Parks Dept set about repairing & rebuilding the sign and at that point the contract stipulated that "LAND" be removed to spell "Hollywood" to better reflect the district, and no longer the housing development. pic.twitter.com/A0rPIiPR1y
Did you know originally, the sign read 'Hollywoodland?' Its main purpose was to advertise the name of the newly allotted housing land in the hills. #InterestingFactsAboutRealEstate #RealEstate #RealEstateAgent #NewBusiness pic.twitter.com/YCsUOXZnYH

100 years of Hollywoodland! This year marks the 100th anniversary of the iconic Hollywood Sign, but another landmark is also celebrating 100 years, it’s the Stone Gates of Hollywoodland. (Thread) pic.twitter.com/cV6ptageCX
