Only half-joking here … The Petersburg siege and thus the Civil War would have ended months earlier except for a drunk Union brigadier general's failure to tell his troops to go around the hole at the Battle of the Crater instead of into the hole where they got stuck

The crater from the civil War battlefield Petersburg, it's very rounded and smooth now. Hardly recognizable as the site of a tremendous explosion. I assume these mounds were larger and more shaped than they are today. Would you agree?
