“When You Walk in the Room” (1963) was originally recorded by its author Jackie DeShannon.
This article reminded me of “Joy to the World”, a huge hit for Three Dog Night in 1971. It was written by Hoyt Axton who also recorded it.
“Bad, Bad Leroy Brown” was a Jim Croce song from 1973. He died on September 20, 1973. See my other post about him. When I saw him, he and his accompanist (who also died in the plane crash), played acoustic guitar. It was just the two of them. I saw him on March 3, 1973.
“Banana Republics” is a Steve Goodman song that was covered by Jimmy Buffett.
“I Can’t Stand the Rain” (1973) is probably the best-known song by the great Ann Peebles who also co-wrote it.
It was sampled on Missy Elliott’s “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)” (1997)
“You’re No Good” is best known for the 1975 Linda Ronstadt version. The original was by Dee Dee Warwick from 1963.
“Can’t Let Go” is best known to me from the Lucinda Willams version on her great 1998 album Car Wheels on a Gravel Road. I didn’t recall that it was written by Randy Weeks.
“Fast Car” is a 1988 Tracy Chapman song that is popular again because of a cover. It really took off after the Grammys on 2/4/22
“Shine a Light” is on the Rolling Stones’ Exile on Main St. (1972). An earlier version was recorded by Leon Russell.
