Mister Ed and Sandy Koufax

Mister Ed was a talking horse in a 1961-1966 TV show.

Mister Ed’s grave

There’s no good reason to show news correpondents in hurricanes

I call it weather porn. They could just show the view from a camera without having someone get pelted by wind and rain. We could see the bad weather without a miserable person in the picture.

Why do we want to see other people suffering? This also applies to shows like Highway Thru Hell and Heavy Rescue 401. They show an endless series of trucks destroyed by accidents, generally in snowy weather in Canada.

I agree with this tweet.

You’re old if you knew M*A*S*H was a movie before it was a TV show

It was a book before it was a movie – a novel written by a doctor who had served in the Korean War.

The 1970 film M*A*S*H was directed by Robert Altman. I saw it in a theater in downtown Philadelphia and thought tickets were expensive because they were $3.00.

I believe that Gary Burghoff (Radar) was the only actor who played the same role in the film and TV show.

Test patterns

Older people will remember that TV stations were not on 24 hours a day. They would usually sign off with the National Anthem accompanied by a video of scenery like mountains and oceans around 1 or 2 a.m. Test patterns would also be shown at sign-off. The Indian-head pattern is well known.

Anti-smoking commercials

The one I remember is from the 1960s with William Talman who had been on the Perry Mason TV program and who died soon after the commercial was filmed. This tweet reminded me of the commercials

We didn’t know how bad smoking was until the Surgeon General’s report in 1964. I had pot before tobacco. I only smoked about 15-20 cigarettes ever and never bought a pack.
