Jackson Holliday was not the consensus top draft pick in 2022

The Orioles deserve a lot of credit for picking him with the first pick. They have also done a great job of preparing him for the majors.

Most people, me included, would have picked Druw Jones. Holliday is now the #1 prospect in the minors while Jones is #78 on MLB Pipeline. Holliday has a good chance to be on the opening day roster.

Here are articles from 2022 before the draft:

CBS Sports – 2022 MLB Mock Draft: Orioles take Termarr Johnson with No. 1 pick

2022 MLB Draft Top 100 prospects: Keith Law’s final rankings ahead of Round 1 (He had Jones 1 and Holliday 6

MLB Pipeline: Final MLB Mock Draft 2022 (Both writers had Jones 1 and Holliday 2)

CBS analysis of the picks

Jones went second. CBS states: Jones, whose father Andruw is a borderline Hall of Famer, was in the running for the top spot entering the spring. He’s since emerged as the industry’s preferred choice.

Republicans own the extremist Alabama IVF ruling

The media has not emphasized that the judges are all Republicans. The Republican party owns this.

This one did it right:

Tweets on right-wing violence

The Minnesota assassin appears to be a hate-filled right winger. So can we stop walking on eggshells about MAGA's legitimization of political violence?Yes, Republicans have also been the target of inexcusable violence, but this isn't a "both sides" issue.1/ A🧵on the danger.

The New York Times Book Review on Larry McMurtry

This is a good column on where to start with Larry McMurtry. I have read some of his books – my favorite was All My Friends Are Going to Be Strangers. I would also recommend Terms of Endearment and Moving On. To me, his strength was creating complex, believable characters. I saw his speak at Johns Hopkins University many years ago.

Another Times article on his books published after he died in 2021.

Trump ranked as the worst president ever. Biden is 14th.

Sounds right to me.

More poor Trump coverage by the New York Times and Washington Post

Trump has been running for office since 2015 and the media still does a poor job of covering him. His terrible pro-Russia and anti-NATO remarks from yesterday are much more important and newsworthy than a few Biden gaffes.

Is it really necessary to show people getting soaked on the Weather Channel?

When the Weather Channel covers storms, they always show their poor correspondents getting pelted with rain, snow or high winds. Is this necessary? Couldn’t showing these things with a camera as they affect trees, buildings and roads be enough? Do we get some perverse pleasure in watching the suffering of others?

I am also puzzled by the appeal of their shows Highway Thru Hell and Heavy Rescue:401. How many overturned trucks, accidents and traffic jams do we need to see? It looks like Canadian government agencies support this but I can’t see how this makes Canada look appealing.
