More Trump “savings” that are really reductions in services

And they lie about it too.

@cbsnews.com is reporting elon's DOGE spent $135 billion to save $160 billion, netting a less than impressive $25 billion in 'savings'. And we still don't really know what he is saving us from.

DOGE’s so-called “savings” are smoke and mirrors. Half the receipts don’t exist, math errors are everywhere, and many “cuts” were never real. The numbers don’t add up — and we’re all paying the price.

🧵1The Trump admin torched $600M in grants that trained new teachers—just when schools are desperate for help. Why? Because the programs supported diversity and equity. They’re not just gutting funding—they’re gutting the future of public education. This is deliberate sabotage.@aft.org

RFK Jr laid out a plan “to tackle the nation’s devastating fentanyl & overdose crisis, proposing camps or farms where people with addiction would be sent to recover.”RFK Jr, himself once an opioid addict, needs to SAVE people first before (sigh) farming them out. This is CRUEL and unnecessary. 😡

The Trump administration cut about $1 billion in aid to anti-hunger groups, according to Feeding America. It's put more pressure on organizations that distribute food to hold up their corner of the U.S. safety net, dipping into reserves and scrounging for donations to replace the food they had lost.

Imagine dismantling the only federal agency dedicated to uplifting minority businesses—That’s exactly what Trump did.The MBDA went from nearly 100 employees to just a few.You don’t gut an agency like that unless you’re trying to kill its mission.

Cocaine Cowboys : Reloaded is worth seeing

Cocaine Cowboys: Reloaded (2014) is an expanded DVD version of Cocaine Cowboys (2006). I just watched it and highly recommended it. It’s a documentary about the drug wars in Miami in the 1980s which also involved Columbia.

On the right of the page, there are links to clips from the film

Author Edna Buchanan is interviewed several times in the film. I recommend her book about Miami, The Corpse Had a Familiar Face (1987).

Schumer’s pathetic letter

Schumer sent a tough letter to the White House. That’s pointless and ineffective. I doubt they will even respond to it. Schumer must go as Minority Leader.

CHUCK SCHUMER: We sent him [Trump] a very strong letter just the other day. DANA BASH: You'll let us know if you get a response to that letter.

Trump tariffs are already showing up in reduced shipping and boats in ports

On the container ship traffic from China to the US this article from the Journal from two days ago has a lot of details. (link should be unlocked) http://www.wsj.com/business/log…

Josh Marshall (@joshtpm.bsky.social) 2025-04-28T02:28:03.030Z

At what point does he cry uncle? The Port of Seattle is empty. When you open the article, check out the photo of the ships that are not there. Astounding. And all self inflicted by Tmurp. How much of the NOT WINNING do we have to endure?

April 23, 2025 – Port of Seattle is empty. Only one ship and no containers. Usually a busy port.

Molly Ploofkins (@mollyploofkins.bsky.social) 2025-04-27T11:01:45.340Z

Not a single international cargo ship at the Port of Seattle. The port is dead. The last ship from China will dock at a West coast port on the 29th, and the last Chinese ship will dock on the East coast around May 10th. After that, there will be no more shipments arriving from China. We’re screwed.

Farmers do not deserve special treatment

No to the proposed Trump farm bailout. American farmers overwhelmingly voted for Trump, they should pay the same tariffs their candidate has imposed on all other Americans, no special handouts. From @theatlantic.com http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc…

Donald Trump said his tariffs would help our farmers. But the real cost of his self-inflicted tax will hit them hard, potentially putting many just one crop away from bankruptcy. How American can that be?
