Congratulations to ABC for putting values over money when they cancelled “Roseanne” because of the star’s disgusting tweets. Maybe Fox News will pick the show up.
Here’s an overview of what happened.
Roseanne had apologized and said it was a joke. It wasn’t a joke. Saying it was a joke is the strategy Trump uses when he says especially repulsive things.
Some tweets:
The big picture: Roseanne Barr has millions of fans and followers. And she misleads them all the time by tweeting hateful conspiracy theories. https://t.co/bbaPYasw3E

This is an important point. This is a pattern of behavior, not a momentary lapse of reason. https://t.co/yiqXkWWO6G

It's a weird world where a TV network takes a moral stand that the president of the United States isn't willing to take

Roseanne Barr’s vicious personal attack on former Obama senior adviser Valerie Jarrett came out of nowhere and cost Ms. Barr and the entire staff of her program their jobs. @ABC/@Disney could not continue with the show without insulting millions of Americans.

Hey @ABC, Roseanne Barr compared Valerie Jarrett to an ape. There is no apology she can make that justifies @ABC turning a blind eye to this bigotry by airing another second of her show.

Ballplayers protest, lose jobs: “This isn’t a First Amendment issue. Your employer can do whatever they want.”
Roseanne calls people “apes” and “Nazis,” loses job: “This is so unfair. What about her First Amendment rights?”

Roseanne Barr has tweeted an apology to Valerie Jarrett and has described her "joke" as being about Jarrett's "politics" and "looks." It was not. It was racist.

Not only is Roseanne bigoted and delusional—she’s selfish. Her Tweets cost dozens of people their jobs.

Valerie Jarrett’s father was (if memory serves) the first black doctor admitted onto the staff of one of Chicago’s major hospitals. The African-American orderlies and maintenance staff lined the hallways on his first day at work to support him.

Most lasting impact of the @realDonaldTrump era may not be shifts in partisan balance, or reg or tax policy, but rather empowering those w/racist views to publicly express them, especially since Rs have usually excused him. Herman Cain is on Fox News saying Roseanne erred in not considering the ^reaction^ her comment ("it crossed a line") would receive, says it gave ABC "ammunition" to cancel a pro-Trump program. "Some companies are so obsessed with … Trump Derangement Syndrome."
