Atari 400 and 800 computers

I owned an Atari 800 computer. It had 48k memory and software was on cartridges. You could buy (which I did) external cassette tape and 5 1/4″ diskette drives. I got an Atari 300 baud modem and connected to CompuServe in 1984. The communications software was on a cartridge.

I had an Epson 9-bit dot matrix printer which connected to the Atari through an interface box called an Ape-Face.

People are criticizing the Harris campaign. How about the Trump campaign?

I am not going to give Trump credit for a good campaign just because he won. I think he won in spite of his campaign, not because of it. I am only talking about the public side, not whatever his campaign did behind the scenes. It looks like they did well getting their voters to vote. I think Harris ran a much better campaign.

Let’s look at the Trump campaign:

He was sometimes several hours late for his rallies.

He told lies over and over

He said terrible things about Harris

He complimented Hitler

He staged an illegal political photo op at Arlington Cemetery

He made racist comments

He called his opponents “vermin” and “the enemy within”

He lost the debate and said dumb stuff like “eating dogs and cats”

He hasn’t always paid for the places he held rallies in

He often used music without the permission of the artists

He was sometimes rambling and incoherent

He hampered relief efforts in North Carolina by lying about them

He said there was election fraud without any basis for his lie

He had 39 minutes at one rally where he didn’t speak

He praised fictional killer Hannibal Lecter

He appeared to mime giving a blow job to a malfunctioning microphone

I don’t think this constitutes a good campaign.

Trump doesn’t want to unify America

If he did, he wouldn’t talk as badly about his opponents.

It’s finally Election Day 2024

I am confident now that Harris will win. She seems to have all of the momentum and Trump is just focusing on his grievances. I look forward to the results with both optimism and apprehension.

However, just like last time, we won’t know the final results for several days. Trump will declare victory tonight, regardless. If he is losing, he’s already said it’s because of (non-existent) fraud.

His cult has been told he will win. If he doesn’t, I expect dozens of lawsuits (some already filed), and involvement from state legislatures and courts. I don’t count on the Supreme Court to do the right thing if cases get to them.

There could be violence. At least, with a Democratic president, the Capitol will be protected this time. Also, the hundreds of convictions for January 6 may discourage some Trump cult members from staging a repeat.

I am not optimistic about long-term unity and common goals for our country. Thanks to Trump, Fox News, and social media, we now have two sets of facts – the real ones and what MAGA believes. I don’t think the Republican Party will ever go back to being a traditional conservative party like it was. Once Trump is gone, MAGA will find another cult leader. I wouldn’t be shocked if it was Donald Trump, Jr. since this is a cult of personality, not ideas.

I lived through the turbulent times of the 1960s and this is a lot different and worse. Back then, there was disagreement on what to do but only one set of facts.

Just like in 2020, the Trump cult won’t believe it if Harris wins. That’s a bad start.

If he’s elected again, it will be even worse.
