Republicans clearly believe Trump’s lies on tariffs

How else can you account for the difference?

To the extent that they ever were, consumer confidence metrics are clearly not a useful measure of general economic moods but just one more indication of how everything is seen through the partisan lens. ⁦‪@NeilIrwin‬⁩.bsky.social http://www.axios.com/2024/12/06/t…

Trump’s terrible idea to impound funds

He just wants power

Trump wants to 'impound' money Congress appropriated — but this 50-year-old law could get in the way http://www.alternet.org/trump-congre…

Trump and his advisers believe that a president can unilaterally ignore Congress’ spending decisions and “impound” funds if he opposes them or deems them wasteful. My latest video for @propublica.org on @mtredden.bsky.social’s story below. Check it out!youtu.be/loC-UTFPizQ?…

Vought has been explicit. He wants to challenge any claim that the President/executive branch does not have the power to unilaterally "impound" or block federal spending, even if it has been authorized by Congress. Musk/DOGE will likely use this. Expect lawsuits. Supreme Court involvement.

Vought and other Project 2025-era argue Trump had unconstrained power to block whatever funding the executive branch doesn’t like. This is wrong. Our explainer here protectdemocracy.org/work/impound…

Trump is filling posts with billionaires

They will look out for themselves. They will cut services to people to pay for the tax cuts for the rich. Rich people not in the next administration are sucking up to Trump.

Besides Donald Trump, Elon Musk and his fellow DOGE head Vivek Ramaswamy, at least 11 billionaires will be serving key roles in the administration. Whether it acts as a government for billionaires could test and potentially tarnish Trump's populist legacy. trib.al/gExhwrT

I bet he is! Billionaires–already people with enormous freedoms due to their wealth– feel that it is an affront to have their grand schemes curbed by regulations. Read Brooke Harrington's work on this.

America now has 815 billionaires who currently hold a record $6.7 trillion in wealth. The bottom 50% of Americans control $3.7 trillion in wealth. When 815 people control more wealth than half a country’s population, we have a very serious problem.
