Bluesky posts on climate change

"Democrats keep “getting caught in this stupid doom loop in which our pollsters say: ‘Well, climate’s not one of the top issues that voters care about, so then we don’t talk about it’”, said Whitehouse. “So it never becomes one of the top issues that voters care about"

Stripping hundreds of millions of dollars from renewable energy and efficiency initiatives is part of a broader move to undo efforts to wean the United States off fossil fuels.

The MLB draft starts today. Here are all prior Orioles first round picks

The Orioles have four early picks – 19, 30, 31 and 37. I hope they draft some college pitchers instead of the usual position players.

The Orioles 1999 draft was a real disaster. They had seven of the first 50 picks and only got one good player out of them – Brian Roberts. Here’s a column by Roch Kubatko on that draft.

My reply to a Washington Post Bluesky post on Trump’s influence

The Post has been part of the problem. They have some good writers but their ownership and leadership has shifted to right. Many Post employees have left. I trust their judgement.

I knew the Supreme Court would cave in to Trump but I have been very disappointed by the behavior of some law firms and universities. They will learn that Trump treats compliance as weakness and will keep asking for more.

"Trump's influence over the Republican Party’s base and showman’s command of the bully pulpit might allow him to exert unusual influence over the nation’s direction," the Editorial Board writes. wapo.st/44GbYoS

He has been helped by the cowardice of mainstream media, law firms, universities and the Supreme Court. Polls show that most of his policies are popular only with his cult. Still, he has defied popular opinion and the law to impose them on us.

Orioles pitcher Brandon Young throws an immaculate inning

An immaculate inning is when a pitcher throws nine pitches and gets three strikeouts. It’s only been done 116 times. It is rarer than a no-hitter (326 times).

Update – Andrew Kittredge threw one on August 6, 2025.

The ball from Brandon Young's immaculate inning was caught by a fan who then gave it to 11-year-old Colin Brennan from Fallston.Colin got a Ryan O'Hearn autographed bat. Young got the ball. The fan got a drink from Colin's dad, Mark. Wins all around.www.mlb.com/orioles/news…

Andrew Kittredge just threw an immaculate inning against the Reds. All three strikeouts were swinging, putting away Austin Hayes, Gavin Lux and Tyler Stephenson. It's the first immaculate inning by a Cubs pitcher since Hayden Wesneski on Sept. 22, 2022 in Pittsburgh.

Trump’s budget cuts are bad for rural medical care

Hospital closings, flood victims unable to get rebuilding permits and medical/housing insurance, Abbott comparing dead children to football championship games, and Cruz stating these same lost children were simply “God’s will,” will follow the TXGOP into the midterms.2026 is coming. Be ready. 🗳️
