Ozu’s Tokyo Twilight

Tokyo Twilight stands out among the Ozu films I have seen. It’s got much more drama and action.

It’s buried in a Criterion DVD set. I wish it got its own release on Blu-ray.

The Killers (1946)

The Killers is an outstanding film noir starring Burt Lancaster and Ava Gardner. It’s available on disc from the Criterion Collection. Criterion has also included the 1964 version.

Film: In This Our Life

In This Our Life (1942) is not nearly as well known as it should be. It has never been on Blu-ray and was on DVD in a Bette Davis box set. It’s an excellent film and Davis is great in it.

I watched Babylon (2022)

Babylon looks great but it lasts too long – over three hours. I got tired of orgies, dwarfs, booze, drugs and a guy who ate a rat. There’s too much of this stuff. Brad Pitt gives an excellent understated performance while Margot Robbie is appropriately over the top. Lesser known actors are also excellent – Diego Calva, Jovan Adepo, and Li Jun Li.
