Eddie Murray stole home – 8/15/79

The 1979 season was my favorite Baltimore Orioles season since I moved here in 1976. I saw 45 games including two ALCS games and four World Series games.

I remember this game well. The White Sox had a rookie pitcher working in the 12th inning. The Orioles had a runner on first base as well as Murray on third. The runner on first distracted the pitcher and Murray stole home. It was great.

The 5/30/25 game was similar in many ways:

The Orioles beat the White Sox 2-1

The winning run was scored on a steal of home by the first baseman

The Dark Internet Humor of Harambe Jokes

The Internet won’t let Harambe rest in peace

I went to the Baltimore Orioles game on May 27,, 2024. I saw a guy wearing a uniform-style shirt with RIP Harambe as the name on the back. It was great.

Ozu’s Tokyo Twilight

Tokyo Twilight stands out among the Ozu films I have seen. It’s got much more drama and action.

It’s buried in a Criterion DVD set. I wish it got its own release on Blu-ray.

Cal Ripken’s 3000th hit – 4/15/00

I didn’t go to the game but was given a ticket as a gift.

The Petersburg Battle of the Crater site

In 1963, our family toured some of the Civil War battlefields. The Battle of the Crater (1864) looked very dramatic in paintings from the time. The Union forces used dynamite which created a crater.

Unfortunately. by 1963 the crater had filled in and was very unimpressive. It was so disappointing.
