Instagram posts on Orioles Opening Day in 1983

Follow the Baltimore History Channel on Instagram. They post good stuff.

I am going to Opening Day today. I’ve been to around 10-15 home openers. Here are Instagram posts on the 1983 Orioles Opening Day. I was there for that one.

Trump’s hostility to foreigners, universities and science will cause a brain drain

Once people have left or don’t come here at all, we’ve lost them. The whole country will suffer for decades because of Trump. Other countries will be glad to have these people and will benefit from them.

Yes–Germany invented the modern university. In the 1930s its universities were the best in the world until the Nazis destroyed them. German universities have never recovered their preeminence. We risk repeating this history here in the US.

This is a sad but interesting question. How many grad students will leave and where, if anywhere will they go ?

Real consequences to Trump. Dr. Marc Ruel, one of the world's top heart surgeons, was set to move from Ottawa to San Francisco this year.He backed out because of the political situation here and the mistreatment of Canada by Trump through tariffs and annexationwww.kqed.org/news/1203279…

Stanley said he was leaving for Toronto “entirely because of the political climate in the United States.” He told the Daily Nous he was happy at Yale but wants “to raise my kids in a country that is not tilting towards a fascist dictatorship”www.torontotoday.ca/local/educat…

“Asked whether she believes other professors might be encouraged to leave the United States, Shore wrote that she believes many of her colleagues will consider relocating due to the current political climate, which she deemed an ‘American descent into fascism.’”

We polled Nature readers to ask if they were thinking of leaving the US for jobs abroad. Three-quarters of them (who said they were US-based scientists) said yes. 🧪www.nature.com/articles/d41…

Spurred by “alarming political interference in academic research by the Trump administration,” Brussels’s Vrije Universiteit (VUB), or Free University, allocated $2.7 million in funding last week for at least 12 new postdoctoral roles open to “censored Americans.”

Trump's science denial, racism and sexism will trigger a brain drain that weakens the United States. MAGA is trashing our leading role in the world to wallow in greed and ignorance.

Reducing services is not saving money

You pay out less in salaries but the smaller staff does less. I don’t call this saving money.

Vought on HHS firing 10,000 workers: "It's fantastic … the number of people that they're able to let ago and be able to find efficiencies at HHS. And so it's really exciting what you're seeing."

Aaron Rupar (@atrupar.com) 2025-03-27T20:49:08.091Z

It’s reducing services, not finding efficiencies.

Trump opposes climate change because his donors sell oil

Trump opposes climate change because he gets money from oil company owners.

"Fighting climate change should involve energizing the economy, including by expanding solar and wind power, which are already the fastest-growing sources of electricity in history," the Editorial Board writes. wapo.st/4j3T4Og

It’s not about lack of imagination. It’s about donations to Trump.www.politico.com/news/2024/05…

A pork barrel project to a Trump donor, Tim Barnard, for oil and liquid natural gas from Canada which t rump is taxing you at 25%. Sounds like Michiganers are getting screwed. Imagine Tim Barnard’s shoddy construction record and when oil leaks in the Great Lakes you get screwed 2x.

ICYMI: The Trump administration claims its seeking “energy dominance.” In reality, its boosting Big Oil donor profits while decimating the U.S. clean energy industry, from wind, solar, batteries and more. Republican districts have the most to lose. http://www.nytimes.com/2025/02/10/c…

A.M. – Wilco’s first album

I like A.M. a lot because it sounds a lot like Uncle Tupelo, the band’s predecessor. I do think their third album, Summerteeth, is better and much more original.

Wilco's baptismal debut, 'A.M.,' contains a funny frankenwork: a mix of shy gestures toward stylistic flairs that would become the band's trademarks, and mismatched bits that had to be deployed and dismissed for them to find a signature sound. http://www.pastemagazine.com/music/wilco/…

Bad job by the Washington Post on Trump’s claim on polling

They should not have written about Trump’s claim without countering it with the truth. Maybe this is Bezos sucking up to Trump.

President Donald Trump on Sunday declined to rule out seeking a third presidential term — an unconstitutional act explicitly barred under the 22nd Amendment — saying that “there are methods which you could do it.”

The Washington Post (@washingtonpost.com) 2025-03-30T19:50:38.289Z

Your article cites Trump’s unsupported claims of popularity in polls. There are actual polls you should include that counter his claim. bsky.app/profile/bria…

Plaques for home runs that hit Eutaw St. at Camden Yards

Plaques are placed on Eutaw St. where home runs by either team are hit. I saw Holliday’s grand slam in 2024.

Jackson Holliday’s 1st MLB home run (a grand slam) is now commememorated with its permanent plaque on #Orioles’ Eutaw Street at Camden Yards
