Future of the Supreme Court

from this article:

“In the past year, conservatives on the court have already shown just how far they are willing to go in abandoning basic principles of political fairness if it happens to help their side. They have approved the Muslim ban by pretending, on the flimsiest of evidence, that it is not in fact a Muslim ban. They have allowed Ohio to purge its voter rolls in a transparent attempt to tip the state’s precarious political balance in the direction of the Republican Party. And they have upheld Texan electoral maps that had clearly been gerrymandered with a view to reduce the voice of African-American voters and make it more difficult for Democrats to get elected. “

Damage done to the Voting Rights Act by the Supreme Court

This is one thing that should be corrected by Congress. It won’t happen unless Democrats win.

McConnell calls Kavanaugh opponents a “mob”

He sounds like Trump now.  I think that protestors should not have bothered Cruz in a restaurant or shout while Senators are speaking but McConnell is very wrong here.

We’re never going to heal the divisions in the country if one side talks like this.  They don’t care.

Tyranny of the minority part 2

see my post from 9/13/18

This is so frustrating!  A minority is dictating how the Supreme Court acts.

The Kavanaugh investigation isn’t over

The limited investigation was a sham limited in scope by the White House.  If the Democrats win the House or Senate, I expect them to conduct a full investigation so we can find out what the truth is.  I’m not ready to impeach him though I am very concerned about his partisan rant at the hearing.  Let’s see how it plays out.

Final polls show Kavanaugh was unpopular but Republicans don’t care

Lack of popularity didn’t stop Trump/Republicans from withdrawing from the climate change agreement, try to build the wall, ban Muslims, try to destroy Obamacare, etc.  They only care what their minority thinks.  They have no interest in compromising.

Waiting for Trump’s reaction

After a long, contentious fight over the Kavanaugh nomination, a real president would try to heal the divisions.  Trump will just gloat.  It’s all about winning to him.

This is similar to my point of view.  Let’s see what he says at his rallies.

Susan Collins will vote for Kavanaugh

I always thought he would be confirmed.  Remember, this is the party that gave you Trump so they don’t care about character.

This is ridiculous after his partisan testimony:

Republicans claim anti-Kavanaugh protesters were paid by Soros

As usual, they blame George Soros.  I don’t know if even Soros has enough money to finance all of the protests Republicans claim he does.  They are unwilling to accept the idea that people disagree with them on the issues – they think they have to get paid to object.  Then there’s the anti-Semitism aspect but we already knew that many of these people were bigots. That’s disgusting.

and then there are the pro-Kavanaugh folks

This one doesn’t mention Soros but it fits in with the theme of paid protestors.  The Republican senators don’t understand their views are those of a minority, not the majority.
