Covers: I Knew the Bride (When She Used to Rock ‘n’ Roll)

Nick Lowe wrote the “I Knew the Bride” but the first and most popular version was by Dave Edmunds in 1977.  Lowe and Edmunds played together in Rockpile which performed a really fast live version in 1980.

Lowe recorded solo versions in 1985 and 2009.  The 2009 one has a good video illustrating the story of the song.

Is the Wall Street Journal fake news?

Trump now claims he was deliberately misquoted by the Wall Street Journal in a taped interview.  He blasted it as “FAKE NEWS!” but the Journal has stuck by their article.  In the past, the conservative Journal has been supportive of Trump.  However, they recently ran a story about a payoff made to a porn star so she wouldn’t talk about her relationship with Trump.  I assume Trump’s blast is just retaliation for that.  He expects the media to only say good things – everything else is fake.  Sad!

Covers: She’s Got You

The original version of the country song “She’s Got You” was by Patsy Cline and was recorded in 1961.

The version recorded by Rhiannon Giddens was released in 2015.  The tempo is much slower than the original.  I think it’s more appropriate for the sad message of the song.    Her excellent recording was followed by live versions available on YouTube.

Covers: Don’t Let Your Deal Go Down

The original version is by Charlie Poole with the North Carolina Ramblers and was recorded in 1925.  Loudon Wainwright III recorded a two-CD tribute to Poole in 2009 called High Wide and Handsome: The Charlie Poole Project which included covers and new songs.

While looking for YouTube links, I ran across a terrific instrumental version by Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys from 1940.

Different versions of the song have slight variations on the name of it

Good luck with that!

African countries want Trump to apologize for his “shithole” remarks.  Good luck with that!

Trump doesn’t apologize.  The only time I recall that he has apologized since he started running for president was over the Access Hollywood tape.

Trump now privately suggests that the tape was not real.   He has already denied what he said at the meeting where he said “shithole”.  If you don’t admit you said it, you don’t have to apologize for it.  Sad!

Trump and the porn star

Trump paid a porn star $130,000 before the 2016 election to keep quiet about an affair they had in 2006, according to the Wall Street Journal.  It should be noted that the Journal is a conservative paper which has supported Trump.  The Daily Beast had been in contact with her for an interview before the election but she backed out.

I don’t think that this would have affected the election had she told her story in 2016.  People knew Trump had flaws and voted for him anyway.

I am more concerned about the women who have accused Trump of sexual misconduct.  I believe them.  Trump supporters who believe Bill Clinton’s accusers but dismiss Trump’s are being partisan.  Sad!
