Youngkin is already losing popularity
He didn’t run as a MAGA extremist but Virginia is finding out that is what he is.
Sam Peckinpah
Today is director Sam Peckinpah’s birthday. The quote from him says he like Junior Bonner and I do too. It’s not nearly as violent as many of his films. The picture is from Bring Me the Head of Alfred Garcia which is a wild incoherent film.
The Wild Bunch is the obvious place to start with Peckinpah. I also recommend Major Dundee which has been given great treatments on Blu-ray.
Film: Ebola Syndrome
Ebola Syndrome (1996) is one of the most outrageous films I have ever seen. The violence is over the top and the main character is truly a terrible guy. Still, it’s very funny. He has killed his restaurant bosses and ground them up for burgers. A customer asks him what was in the burger and he says “ass cheek”. He meant it. Vinegar Syndrome recently released it in a 4K/Blu-ray set. They did a great job. This film isn’t for everyone, that’s for sure.
The Who Sell Out
The Who Sell Out (1967) was released in a deluxe edition in 1967. It was a bold album that was structured like a radio broadcast with commercials. Back before Tommy, the Who had a great sense of humor. The album also includes “I Can See for Miles” a blast of tough rock and roll.
