2018 state legislature elections

Republicans figured this out first:  if you control state legislatures, you can gerrymander election maps.  Democrats are finally fighting back.  It would be best to have objective maps drawn by non-partisan people.

Wisconsin doesn’t want to obey the law

Two seats in the Wisconsin legislature became vacant on December 29, 2017 when Republican governor Walker appointed the officeholders to posts in his government.  Walker did not want to hold special elections for the positions.

The law states, according to this article, “Walker should have called for a special election to fill “any vacancy in the office of state senator or representative to the Assembly occurring before the 2nd Tuesday in May in the year in which a regular election is held to fill that seat shall be filled as promptly as possible by special election.””

A lawsuit, led by former US Attorney General Holder, was filed and a judge appointed by Walker ruled that the special elections must be held.

Now, the Republicans want to change the law instead of follow it.  Do you think Republicans are going to accept the results if they lose midterm elections if they are willing to do stuff like this? Sad!

Some Pennsylvania Republicans want to impeach the judges over the new congressional map

It’s clear Republicans won’t accept the new map and want to impeach Democratic judges.  Even the state Republican Justice is opposed to the impeachments.

Do you really think Republicans will accept the results of the 2018 Congressional elections in Pennsylvania?  I don’t since they don’t accept the map.  Sad!

Update:

Now they want to change how the judges are elected.  The Republicans won’t accept a fair map!

Conspiracy theorists think there was fraud in the PA election

The recent congressional election for PA district 18 is a preview of the November congressional elections.

Since it appears that Conor Lamb won, the conspiracy theorists have to find fake reasons that didn’t happen.

Here’s an overview on a fact check concerning a story that the election was invalidated and links to some of the stories mentioned in it.

The usual fake Republican voter fraud allegations

Allegations that trucks of illegals cast votes

Allegations that voting machines changed votes to Lamb

Trump has convinced his followers that the system is rigged.  I think they will not accept the results in November if the Democrats win the House and will fight back with nonsense like these allegations.  Sad!

PA redistricting

The US Supreme Court did not approve a Republican request to put a stay on the new congressional map.  Columns like this are spinning it as a win for Democrats but it’s really a win for fairness.   On a practical basis, it does help Democrats but that was not the purpose of the map.  The intent of the map was to draw representative congressional districts.

The Republicans were unwilling to produce a map that was fair to both parties so the State Supreme Court stepped in.  The new map is more favorable for Democrats than the old one but that’s because the old one was so pro-Republican.

I am sure Republicans will continue to protest, with Trump’s approval.  If the elections are held under the new map and it helps Democrats take the House, I expect Republicans to challenge the results.  Sad!
