Polo Grounds photos from Twitter

I saw the 1962 and 1963 Mets play there. It was the former home of the New York Giants before they moved to San Francisco. I recommend following the Twitter accounts I posted the tweets from to see more cool photos,

I recall seeing seats being sold for $999 at a show about a decade ago

I recommend Neopol Savory Smokery

The article from the Baltimore Beat is excellent. Neopol is near here and I really like their food. I order the food online and pick it up. The food has always been read and the orders have always been correct. See the pictures below of the shrimp salad sandwich, turkey sandwich, and mussels.

The 500 home run club

There are now 28 players in the 500 home run club. I went to a baseball autograph show in Atlantic City in 1989 that had 11 living members of the club which then included 14 players. I have included a photo of a Gateway Stamp Company signed envelope of the event which also includes an autograph from Pete Rose.

I still remember when Eddie Murray hit his 500th home run. I lived a few blocks from the Orioles stadium. I heard him hit it on the radio, then opened my back door to soak up the crowd noise.

The Zapruder film of the Kennedy assassination

The Kennedy assassination was 59 years ago today on 11/22/63. Abraham Zapruder witnessed it and filmed it on his 8 mm camera. The film was sold to Life Magazine and still frames appeared in print. They’re unforgettable if you have seen them.

Newly found live Gram Parsons recording

I am a big admirer of Gram Parsons for his solo work and earlier work with the Byrds and Flying Burrito Brothers. There’s a Kickstarter campaign for a newly found live recording from a 1973 concert. I am really looking forward to it!

I have seen four of the five Torrente films

There are five Torrente films all directed, starring and written by Santiago Segura. I first saw Segura in excellent films by Alex de la Iglesia. I was especially impressed by his performance in Dying of Laughter and decided to find more films of his.

Torrente is a disgusting bigot, coward, and liar. He is racist, anti-Asian, and anti-gay but I don’t recall any antisemitism. I think the character could be established as a bad guy without all of the bigotry but overall the films are very amusing in a tasteless way. Torrente reminds me of Billy Bob Thornton’s Bad Santa and the films of W. C. Fields. Look at the Tip #1 video below to get an idea of what he is like.

The firsts four films were released on DVD and I have seen them all.

The New York Times article linked to below is well worth reading.

The Edsel: Ford’s 1950s car failure

Old folks like me remember the Edsel. I don’t recall a car from a major company that was such a flop.
