Covers: Sitting on Top of the World

I first heard “Sitting on Top of the World” on Cream’s 1968 album Wheels of Fire.  The original 1930 version was by the Mississippi Sheiks.  Howlin’ Wolf covered it in 1957 in a jazzy arrangement.

The Cream version credited Howlin’ Wolf as the author so his version is clearly their inspiration.  I prefer the live version they released in 1969 on Goodbye.  To me, the studio version is too slow and unemotional compared to the live one.

Among many other covers is one by Bob Dylan on his 1992 album Good As I Been to You.  The Mississippi Sheiks would have been his source since he recorded other songs by them.  It is not on YouTube. Taj Mahal’s version on 1993’s Dancing the Blues is more like Howlin’ Wolf’s.

John Bolton – a collection of columns about him

Bolton is a war hawk and his appointment increases the likelihood of war.  He could do a lot of harm.

Even Republicans know that Bolton is dangerous.  Read here about why they didn’t confirm him as UN ambassador in 2005.

Bolton initially suggested that Russian election hacks were a false flag by the Obama administration before he walked it back somewhat.

Bolton is close with an anti-Muslim hate group.

Here are examples of his views.

2018 state legislature elections

Republicans figured this out first:  if you control state legislatures, you can gerrymander election maps.  Democrats are finally fighting back.  It would be best to have objective maps drawn by non-partisan people.

Attacks on Parkland survivors

Here’s more information.  It’s terrible that people do this instead of having a real discussion on issues.

Update: Here’s an excellent article on the personal attacks the some people have made on the Parkland students.

Update:  Conspiracy theorists falsely claim David Hogg was not at the school during the shooting.

Update:  A Minnesota state representative compared the Stoneman Douglas protesters to Hitler Youth.

Update:  Here’s a good column that makes the point that conservatives are mad because the students are sympathetic :

” …what conservatives are really mad about is that the tactic of demonizing those they disagree with — which is so common in contemporary political rhetoric (on both the right and left) — has, in this case, been taken away from them.”

Update:  InfoWars depicted Emma Gonzalez as a member of Hitler youth and dubbed Hitler over a David Hogg speech.

Sad!
