Twitter is very educational. I never knew about this. It was 102 years ago yesterday.

Covers: Streets of Bakersfield
“Streets of Bakersfield” was recorded by Buck Owens in 1973. Owens joined Dwight Yoakam on his cover version in 1988. The Yoakam cover features great accordion accompaniment by Flaco Jimenez. The Yoakam cover was more successful than the original version.

The Band Box Theatre in Philadelphia
The long-gone Band Box Theatre showed great foreign films by directors like Bunuel and Fellini. I saw some great films there when I was in high school. I definitely recall seeing Nazarin and The Exterminating Angel there. Nazarin has never been released on a US Blu-ray or DVD. I most recently saw it a few years ago at the American Film Institute. The Exterminating Angel has been released on Blu-ray and DVD by the Criterion Collection.
Baltimore’s Bromo Seltzer Tower
Baltimore’s Bromo Seltzer Tower was part of the Bromo Seltzer factory downtown. The factory is gone and the tower now houses artist studios. The design was based on the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, Italy. There used to be a Bromo Seltzer bottle at the top.

Georgia’s terrible election law
It restricts voting based on the big lie about voter fraud.
What to do with your vaccine card
I took cell phone pictures of both sided and put the card in a drawer for safekeeping. I also carry a printed scan of the the card that I could fold and put in my wallet. I have seen pros and cons about laminating it. The best argument against it is that we may need booster shots later which would be added to your card.
Don’t laminate your COVID vaccination card before doing these 5 things
Biden’s infrastructure plan
This plan is a great idea. It will help rebuild and expand our infrastructure and benefit people at the same time.
Covers: Standing on the Corner (Blue Yodel No. 9)
Jimmie Rodgers recorded his “Standing on the Corner (Blue Yodel No. 9)” in 1930, backed by Louis Armstrong and Lil Hardin Armstrong. Johnny Cash and Armstrong performed it in 1970.
“Suck it, Pap”
The Orioles have started the 2021 season against the Red Sox. This reminded me of the 2011 Orioles-Red Sox game when Robert Andino’s hit off Red Sox closer ended the Red Sox playoff chances. The Orioles were bad but it felt good to Orioles fans to knock another team out of the playoffs.
That winter, Robert Andino was signing autographs at the Orioles FanFest. I was behind a couple of young guys who had a picture of the Andino hit and heard one say “I tried to get him to sign it “Suck it, Pap” but he wouldn’t.” That was a great idea.
Monster (R.E.M. album)
Monster (1994) is a great album. Peter Buck’s loud electric guitar replaces the delicate folk-rock sound of their prior albums. A deluxe version was released in 2020.
