Don Mossi

I remember him

Deadspin on the ugliest player of all time

Bill James quoted in the Deadspin article “…Mossi’s ears looked as if they had been borrowed from a much larger species, and reattached without proper supervision.”

Trump was wrong to attack LeBron James

LeBron James has been a great asset to America.  He’s not just a great basketball player, he devotes millions of dollars and his time to his hometown of Akron and elsewhere.  He gave a great interview to Don Lemon.  I recommend watching it here.

Trump couldn’t deal with it.  Trump used his charity to buy pictures of himself.  Trump went racist to appeal to his base by insulting the intelligence of James and Lemon.  (This is similar to his terrible baseless comments on Maxine Waters’ IQ.

Fortunately, a lot people defended James including Michael Jordan and the First Lady.

Disco Demolition Night: July 12, 1979

Disco Demolition Night was a fiasco staged by the Chicago White Sox in 1979.

Here’s a video.

The guy who created Disco Demolition Night

Larry Doby

Jackie Robinson is famous as the first African-American baseball player in the major leagues.

Do you know who was the second?  Larry Doby.  Unlike Robinson, Doby went right from the Negro Leagues to the major leagues.  He was a great player and is in the Hall of Fame.

On July 10th, the House voted to award Doby the Congressional Gold Medal.

I was born in Paterson.

Andre the Giant

Andre could drink a lot.

Satchel Paige

It’s Satchel Paige‘s birthday.

NFL ratings were up compared to overall TV ratings

Trump will ramp up his attacks on the NFL before the election because his base likes them.  The league gets what they deserve for caving in to him.  Since he knows the owners are weak, the bully will keep badgering them.  Sad!

A group of NFL players on pardons

This article notes: “Earlier this month, President Donald Trump said he wants professional athletes who kneel during the National Anthem to protest racial injustice to tell him who they think the President should pardon next.

On Thursday, a group of NFL players responded to the President in a New York Times an op-ed. But the athletes aren’t giving Trump a list of names. Instead, they call for broader changes to the criminal justice system.”
I strongly recommend reading the column – see the link to the New York Times above.
The players write: “But a handful of pardons will not address the sort of systemic injustice that N.F.L. players have been protesting. These are problems that our government has created, many of which occur at the local level. If President Trump thinks he can end these injustices if we deliver him a few names, he hasn’t been listening to us.”

Staten Island Pizza Rats

Remember the New York pizza rat?

Now, the minor league baseball Staten Island Yankees will be named the Staten Island Pizza Rats for at least five home games.
