Voter suppression update – 9/4/19

Opinion: How Democrats can overcome Republican voter suppression https://t.co/BOadDrf7yR
— The Washington Post (@washingtonpost) September 4, 2019

A recent Brennan Center study found that US election jurisdictions with histories of egregious voter discrimination have been purging voter rolls at a rate 40% beyond the national average. https://t.co/EDfTRbOhx3
— Brennan Center (@BrennanCenter) August 25, 2019

Tom, this is bullshit and you know it. But, in case you don't, here are a couple of studies about why it's bullshit.https://t.co/UrrYCoQyfd https://t.co/1JnVlBpbKO

And all the laws that got passed in the wake of Shelby County were purely coincidental.
— Charles P. Pierce (@CharlesPPierce) July 17, 2019

Some GOP-led states are advancing bills to tighten voter registration and early voting. “Some of this seems like a fairly direct response to things that happened in the midterms,” says Brennan Center expert Max Feldman. https://t.co/g8iSQIuOkg

NEW: Report finds that the Florida GOP's poll tax on voters who've served their felony sentences could cost billions of dollars. It could prevent up to 1.1 million citizens from voting https://t.co/ky1byFaSkZ

Biden lies about his position on Iraq

He’s not in Trump’s league but he’s not the most honest candidate either.

Joe Biden is repeatedly misrepresenting his past position on the Iraq War, falsely saying again this week that he was against it from the moment of the invasion. The long record shows that’s far from what happened. Story from @natemcdermott and @KFILE: https://t.co/iUPQsNSKhx
— Daniel Dale (@ddale8) September 4, 2019

Pence should not have stayed at Trump’s property in Ireland

It wasn’t close to Dublin where his meetings were. This is just wrong. Trump and Pence can’t even come up with a consistent lie about it.

When @vp visited Ireland, he stayed 150 miles away from his meetings — at @realdonaldtrump's golf club.
Trump got $.
Pence got a 2-hour commute across Ireland.
Taxpayers got the bill.https://t.co/KQO3vg4vVQ
— David Fahrenthold (@Fahrenthold) September 4, 2019

How do we know @VP Pence got his hand caught in the cookie jar by funneling taxpayers funds to @realDonaldTrump? Because the @WhiteHouse is now changing the story.

The corruption in the Trump Administration is incredible. So is the lying to cover it up.#WednesdayWisdom https://t.co/CA7HiP0Eve
— Ted Lieu (@tedlieu) September 4, 2019

It's just a simple four-hour detour costing the taxpayer millions in order to direct some government money to Trump personally. It's happened literally hundreds of times before. Trump and Pence are "irked" that you all are treating it like a big deal. https://t.co/EzgI1xlNlb pic.twitter.com/eg6Ka8OgXo
— David Frum (@davidfrum) September 4, 2019

Trump tells reporters he didn’t suggest that Pence stay at his golf club in Ireland: “I don’t suggest anything – nor did I with the Attorney General… I have a lot of hotels all over the place and people use them because they’re the best, you know, they’re the best.”
— Jim Acosta (@Acosta) September 4, 2019

At least 24 of 32 people who have served in Trump’s cabinet and 26 of the 53 Senate Republicans have been spotted at or spent money at Trump’s hotel in DC. @maggieNYT @EricLiptonNYT https://t.co/uFSEzfNAjw
— Peter Baker (@peterbakernyt) September 4, 2019

It’s not just spending taxpayer money to stay at Doonbeg–back home, Vice President Pence, his campaign and his PAC have collectively spent hundreds of thousands of dollars at Trump properties. https://t.co/uvvPDJcZoC
— Citizens for Ethics (@CREWcrew) September 4, 2019

"Multiple W.H. officials expressed disbelief that Pence's office thought spending two nights at the Trump International Golf Links & Hotel was good idea." 🤔 https://t.co/qebFGpo8jW pic.twitter.com/EsiV8UgsZC

Secret Service veterans are grumbling about the Trump administration’s repeated insistence that it’s logistically easier for law enforcement to secure Trump resorts when the president and vice president travel.

It isn't. https://t.co/bxbfe4mMVS
— Citizens for Ethics (@CREWcrew) September 4, 2019

Definitely not easier than the U.S. Ambassador's residence near Dublin that's already more secure than Doonberg. https://t.co/tAHYokluS5

Trump lies update – 9/4/19

I made a separate post about his lies about Hurricane Dorian.

Trump made 62 false claims last week. There were some weird ones. My breakdown and full list with @tarasubramaniam: https://t.co/mPe7Vsn4Uv
— Daniel Dale (@ddale8) September 4, 2019

The #1 venue for Trump's false claims over the last six weeks: his exchanges with reporters, many of them in front of the Marine One helicopter.

That's partly just because he's letting these "Chopper Talk" sessions run very long, but still notable. https://t.co/AUApkQ5r1q pic.twitter.com/vSo6DiOlc4

Trump lies about Hurricane Dorian

Trump said it was going to affect Alabama – it isn’t.

Trump accuses the media of giving out a phony report when they give correct information.

Trump continues to lie about it – this is dangerous. People’s lives are affected by the hurricane. Sad!

A freaking Sharpie? https://t.co/rNVDUP96Lk
— Charles P. Pierce (@CharlesPPierce) September 4, 2019

I wrote about the Trump Sharpie-hurricane map and, more broadly, how it reinforces Trump's refusal to concede to reality. https://t.co/YsTVhgKdiA
— Philip Bump (@pbump) September 4, 2019

A source familiar with the matter says DHS did not provide the altered map Trump showed in the Oval.
“The map was not brought by DHS for this briefing,” the source said. https://t.co/oKeXF89A61
— Jeremy Diamond (@JDiamond1) September 4, 2019

As a hurricane moves along the eastern United States and residents are told to heed all warnings from government officials, the President appears to have publicly displayed an altered map of the hurricane's trajectory with portions of Alabama circled with a Sharpie pic.twitter.com/0UJmJnDKYA
— Josh Campbell (@joshscampbell) September 4, 2019

President Trump says he doesn’t know about the hurricane map being altered by a Sharpie. He also insisted there are “other, better maps” that show Alabama was in the area that could be affected by Hurricane Dorian, though the weather service said that’s not true.
— Kaitlan Collins (@kaitlancollins) September 4, 2019

Here's why the Alabama/Dorian story matters, especially with Trump showing off a distorted map today: The president spread false info during an emergency situation three times in one day. Then insisted he was right when he was corrected. https://t.co/1XOYGkMhMh
— Brian Stelter (@brianstelter) September 4, 2019

Reporter just asked Trump about the map: "It looked like someone took a Sharpie…."

Trump: "I don't know. I don't know." (But Potus insists several times that Alabama was in the Dorian's path despite evidence to contrary.) https://t.co/2S92ndpnB1
— David Nakamura (@DavidNakamura) September 4, 2019

The President held up a fake and doctored hurricane forecast map from the National Hurricane Center today to try and substantiate his claim that Hurricane Dorian would hit Alabama.

That's the facts: https://t.co/icyHuq3TfX
— Tom Winter (@Tom_Winter) September 4, 2019

As #Dorian approached, @realdonaldtrump spread misinformation about Alabama. Within minutes @NWSBirmingham corrected Trump without mentioning him by name. https://t.co/x0LjbdRmu3 pic.twitter.com/5YgFFdnq0c
— PolitiFact (@PolitiFact) September 4, 2019

Perhaps not a great idea for the White House to be showing the country fake hurricane tracking maps while Dorian remains an active storm. https://t.co/TmCbJ8j4k4
— Nate Silver (@NateSilver538) September 4, 2019

Trump intended to tweet at Jonathan Karl, the chief White House correspondent for ABC News. He instead tagged Johnathan Carl, a Kentucky pastor and veteran. https://t.co/rfe02BI6gs

Conspiracy theory about Beto O’Rourke

Just another right wing conspiracy theory. Sad!

Thread from Beto campaign manager blasting Twitter, FB, Google for allowing disinformation to spread. https://t.co/Ta1ydsaXOc
— Alex Thompson (@AlxThomp) September 4, 2019

This is really interesting. In 2016, campaigns knew misinformation was being spread by bots and sock puppets, but they didn’t know how to talk about it. Now, we’re seeing campaigns and reporters highlight what had been unspoken. https://t.co/tunVmLx8MI

You can make your own Hollywood Walk of Fame star here. I went with what Kim called Trump.

Louis Sullivan – born 9/3/1856

I have only seen one of his buildings – the Bayard Building in lower Manhattan.

QAnon update 9/1/19

They even think Hurricane Dorian is part of the conspiracy!

Michael Flynn and George Papadopoulos are scheduled to speak at conference organized by a QAnon supporter, and which features on its website an American flag with a big Q on it. https://t.co/WJaN4TGOyt

Because of course they do.

QAnon is the Jacob Wohl of conspiracy theories. https://t.co/QfVnoh5KvB
— Rick Wilson (@TheRickWilson) September 1, 2019

fits w/ my theory that Qanon stuff is evolving into some combo of 'Trump is a great leader' & 'it's fun to be part of a community that triggers the libs real hard' & so the campaign will embrace. (despite fact that it's still bananas and clearly has unstable, violent followers) https://t.co/fGdIOsAUb0

Van Morrison – born 8/31/45

“U Li La Lu” by Poi Dog Pondering from 1990 has a great reference to Van Morrison:
