The original version is by The Soul Stirrers from 1962. It features Johnnie Taylor who wrote the song and later had a long career as a soul singer. Al Green covered it on his great 1971 album Gets Next To You. Green also recorded it as “I’ll Be Standing By” which is a bonus track on some releases of Gets Next To You. It’s great, too.

Covers: Driving Wheel
The original version of “Driving Wheel” was by Roosevelt Sykes in 1936 (as “Driving Wheel Blues”). Junior Parker covered it in 1961 and Al Green recorded a terrific version in 1971.
Burnings of black churches
I certainly think you can attribute this to Trump’s encouragement of white supremacism.
Trump and Pence quickly tweeted sympathy after the Notre Dame fire but said nothing about the black churches that burned.

Today’s House hearing on Hate Crimes and White Nationalism included Republican witnesses who lied about history. Republicans don’t want to deal with white supremacists because they are a large part of the Trump cult.
Omar, Trump, Jews and Israel
Just my opinon:
Representative Omar was wrong when she talked about allegiance to foreign countries. Trump attacked her and then she got a death threat. Once again, Trump’s attacks on people have led to the potential for violence.
Trump was wrong when he told American Jews that Netanyahu was their prime minister. If you criticize Omar, you must criticize Trump for his similar comment implying Jewish dual or primary loyalty to Israel. I am much more worried about Trump’s language – he’s the president.
Trump was wrong to criticize Democrats for being anti-Semitic for criticizing Israel. Netanyahu is just an Israel version of Trump (and that’s not a compliment).
Trump is anti-Semitic. I will never forgive him for his “very fine people on both sides”remark concerning Neo-Nazis in Charlottesville. As usual, he projects his own bigotry onto others. He is trying to divide Jews who primarily support Democrats.
Omar was 100% correct to call Miller a white supremacist. Just because he’s Jewish doesn’t mean he can’t be a bigot.
American Jews are loyal to the United States. I live here, not in Israel. I don’t think Israel is perfect.

Trump has lied before when he blames Obama for his own family separation policy.
Covers: Door Number Three
These are not really covers. They are two versions by the song’s co-authors, Steve Goodman and Jimmy Buffett. The song makes references to the TV show “Let’s Make a Deal” and name-checks three actual people on the show, the host Monty Hall and his sidekicks Jay (Stewart) and Carol Merrill. Buffett’s version was released in 1974 and Goodman’s version was released in 1975. Goodman’s version quotes lines from Bob Dylan’s “Like A Rolling Stone” which end with “Do you want to make a deal?”. Buffett’s version has some lines at the end that are not in Goodman’s recording.

The original version was by the Kinks from 1966. It was not a single (at least not in the US) but has become better known over time. There are several covers by power pop artists recorded decades after the Kinks version.
