Calling a lie a lie

There are lots of tweets today on the issue of whether Trump’s lies should be called “lies”or something milder like “false statements”.  Tweeters criticized the media for not calling his statements lies when they are untrue.

Some of the issues raised by those who don’t want to call them lies are:

  • we don’t know his intentions
  • he believes the stuff he says

I think he is a pathological liar and he wins if his lies are not called lies.  If he believes this crap, that’s a big problem too.  All politicians lie but this is not normal and we can’t forget that.

Here are some of the best tweets I saw today:

An easily disproven Trump lie

Trump said the New York Times made up a source in an article on North Korea.

A newer article about Trump’s lie states:

“It is not clear whether the president was simply unaware of the actions of his own senior staff or if he knowingly ignored the truth. The source of that sentence was a White House official who held a briefing on Thursday afternoon in the White House briefing room that was attended by about 50 reporters, with about 200 or so more on a conference call.

Reporters often request such briefings to be on the record, which would allow the official to be named. But, in this case, the rules of the briefing imposed by the White House required that the official be referred to only as a “senior White House official.” The Times is continuing to abide by that agreement.”

This is really pathetic.  Dozens of people were there.  This is just an easily disproven lie. It’s just part of his efforts to discredit the news media.  I despise Trump for many reasons but lies and bigotry are the top two.

Sad!

Trump keeps lying about military pay

Trump keeps lying when he repeats his lie that there hasn’t been a military pay raise in 10 years.

Since he keeps repeating it, it’s a lie!

Trump’s talk about immigrants in private is as bad as his public comments

From this article, here’s a description of Trump’s comments at a meeting to prepare for a speech to Congress:

“Trump reminded them the crowds loved his rhetoric on immigrants along the campaign trail. Acting as if he were at a rally, he then read aloud a few made-up Hispanic names and described potential crimes they could have committed, such as rape or murder. Then, he said, the crowds would roar when the criminals were thrown out of the country — as they did when he highlighted crimes by illegal immigrants at his rallies, according to a person present for the exchange and another briefed on it later. Miller and Kushner laughed.”

I’m tired of Trump’s lies and insults about Democrats

Democrats do not defend MS-13 gang members.

Democrats don’t want open borders with criminals rushing in.

Democrats are patriots – their campaign did not deal with Russia, an enemy of the US.

Democrats are in favor of fair taxes, not giving most of the breaks to the rich.

Democrats want the negotiations with North Korea to be successful.  There is justified skepticism based on Trump’s behavior and prior history of negotiations with North Korea.

I am tired of Trump’s divisive lies and insults.  Sure, all politicians criticize their opponents but Trump’s talk has been extreme.  He has no interest in unifying the country.  He only cares about his base.

I am also sick of the term “libtard”.  I don’t call conservatives “conservatard”.

New York Times fact check

Elliott Broidy

Broidy is the guy who used Michael Cohen to pay off a Playboy model who got pregnant.  Now we are finding out more about him.  This column is a good overview.

Broidy lobbied the Trump administration to help Saudi Arabia and hurt Qatar.

Broidy’s company has obtained $800 million in contracts during the Trump administration.

There’s even a plausible theory that Trump got the model pregnant and used Broidy as a front.
