Trump is a hypocrite about the Fifth Amendment

Trump lawyer Cohen will take the Fifth Amendment on the Stormy Daniels case.

In the past, Trump was critical of people who used the Fifth Amendment.

The article notes:

““The mob takes the Fifth,” Trump said at one campaign rally in September 2017. “If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?”

He was largely targeting former staffers for Hillary Clinton who pleaded the Fifth during the investigation into her use of a private email server while she was secretary of State.”

The Washington Post and other media outlets point out that Trump himself has used the Fifth Amendment.

Sad!

Mulvaney admitted lobbyist contributions can buy access in Congress

Mulvaney said ““We had a hierarchy in my office in Congress.  If you’re a lobbyist who never gave us money, I didn’t talk to you. If you’re a lobbyist who gave us money, I might talk to you.”

This analysis goes into more detail.

Mulvaney also is considering ending public access to a database consumers use to file complaints against financial institutions.  The Trump institution clearly cares about businesses more than the public.  Sad!

Update: Even after he worked for the administration, Mulvaney met with lobbyists who contributed to his campaigns.

Tax update

Millionaires will save $17 billion because of a provision in the tax cuts.

This column shows that voters understand the tax cuts won’t help most of them:

“Just 27 percent of Americans believe the GOP tax overhaul was a good idea, according to a recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll. Even among Republican voters, the tax cuts are not exactly thunderously popular: A little more than half (56 percent) say they were a good idea. ”

The tax cut is not doing what Republicans claimed it would according to this column.

The author says “…the tax cut haven’t as yet juiced up the economy; the pass-through gimmick was a huge sop to the rich; and the cuts ballooned the debt.”

The law actually gives companies incentives to move factories and offices out of the US.

Trump thinks people are like him

I think Trump’s attitude toward others reflects his own terrible behavior.

Trump accuses opponents of lying.  He lies virtually everyday so I think he believes everyone does it.

Trump accuses everyone of making bad deals.  Trump cheated people (Trump University) and many subcontractors.  He thinks because he cheats everyone that everyone is out to cheat him.  He has no understanding that a deal can benefit both sides.

Sad!

Focus on issues, not Stormy Daniels

This excellent column points out that the attention the media has given to Daniels, Cohen and Comey makes it harder to focus on issues such as the economy.

The column states:

“The intense media attention on Trump’s personal deficiencies might not actually move many more voters than they already have, and the economic message pushed by Democrats—one that’s rooted, in part, in the tax bill—is having a hard time breaking through.”

Sad!
