Great point about heckling of Nielsen

Trump lie about alleged call from Fallon

Trump said Fallon called him.  Fallon said he didn’t.  Trump is a pathological liar so I believe Fallon.  Trump has done this before as noted below.

Large banks are doing really well

The article linked to in the tweet states: “Banks have more than doubled their capital, their main financial defense against losses. Profits are surging on the back of the stronger economy, and bank stocks have risen more than the broader stock market since the election of Donald J. Trump. Wall Street’s chief executives are enjoying hefty paydays. The Trump administration has started to relax post-crisis regulation, and banks are angling for more loosening. ”

Banks have also paid billions in fines. Yet, Republicans and some Democrats have eliminated safeguards put in place after the recession.

Why Trump is emphasizing immigration

This tweet explains it perfectly.  Republicans can’t run on the issues so Trump falls back on bigotry to motivate his base.  I’m sure he’ll go back to bashing the NFL when it gets closer to football season.  (To be fair, a new poll shows people are giving him good marks for the economy.)

Covers: Take Me Home, Country Roads

The original version of “Take Me Home, Country Roads” was recorded by John Denver in 1971.

A really creative cover by reggae artist Toots & the Maytals was released in 197e as “Country Road”

Toots substituted “West Jamaica”  for “West Virginia.

Covers: Release Me

“Release Me” was written in 1949 as a country song and has been recorded in different styles.  Here are some of the many versions that show how durable the song is.

There was a hugely popular version by Engelbert Humperdinck in 1967 – not my type of music but you can dig it up.

Eddie Miller (1949) – the original version

Little Esther Phillips (1962)

Johnny Adams (1968)

Lyle Lovett with k.d. lang (2012)  (Make sure to check out the Release Me album cover)

Covers: Hot Tamale Baby

On Clifton Chenier’s birthday

The zydeco song was written and originally recorded by Clifton Chenier.  I am not sure when but I am guessing it was in the 1950s.  The cover version I know best was by Buckwheat Zydeco from 1987.  There are numerous other versions including Marcia Ball (1986) and the Red Stick Ramblers (2007)
