Russian TV said Trump is accomplishing the Russian goal of dividing the US and Western Europe

Yours truly for the @washingtonpost:
On Russian state TV, Putin has already won the summit with Trump https://t.co/RsJJkRVEPz

Sort of breathtaking: Russian state TV says Trump is allowing Russia to achieve the goal of Western division that was its Cold War dream. https://t.co/cZTDueQ7Be

“We are witnessing something surprising, something that even the Soviet Union was not able to accomplish: Divide the U.S. and Western Europe. It didn’t work then, but it seems to be working with Mr. Trump now,” Tatyana Parkhalina said on state-run TV https://t.co/kAMFykzsm0

Even a Fox News poll shows the majority of people think Trump is not tough enough on Russia

Trump again calls much of the news media “enemy of the people”

He sounds just like a dictator.

This is a phrase that dictators use: "our news media is indeed the enemy of the people." Stop it, Mr. President. https://t.co/ttYbe3OqjR

Trump calls media "enemy of the people" while flying to Putin summit https://t.co/Kru0UN0STV

— Axios (@axios) July 15, 2018

Trump calls the press the enemy of the people — echoing Hitler, Mao, Stalin, and Chavez with that depiction of the press — while speaking about meeting with a despot who literally murders journalists who criticize his regime. This is another sick low point in US history. https://t.co/yyGVCJa64C

On the eve of a summit with Putin, critics of whom in the journalistic community often end up jailed or murdered, President Trump calls journalists the enemy of the people. https://t.co/zuUoZwIqKd

“Much of the news media is indeed the enemy of the people.”

I know he has said it before. But it’s no less staggering. https://t.co/Xkd099c3O6

POTUS assails the free press in front of the entire world. Setting a dangerous precedent and affirming what we all know: Trump in painting us as the "enemy of the people" shows he has no respect for the people. @realDonaldTrump

— Molly Jong-Fast (@MollyJongFast) July 13, 2018

Remember with at least seven former Ohio State wrestlers said Congressman Jim Jordan knew about systemic sexual abuse but did nothing and then Jordan and Trump and Ryan effectively called them all liars and then we basically just stopped talking about it?

Trump shouldn’t meet with Putin now

Putin is the enemy – why reward him? What concessions will Trump make in the private meeting?

This is good:

FDR didn’t meet w/ the Japanese after Pearl Harbor. George H.W. Bush didn’t meet w/ Saddam after Iraq invaded Kuwait. And George W. Bush didn’t meet w/ Bin Laden after 9/11. So tell me, @realDonaldTrump, what does America get out of you meeting w/ Putin after he attacked us?

— Rep. Eric Swalwell (@RepSwalwell) July 15, 2018

I'm a Conservative. When I was in Congress, I was one of it's most conservative Members.

But dammit, I'm an American first. And I'm furious that Russia screwed with our election. I'm furious that Russia attacked us.

And I'm really furious that our President doesn't give a damn.

Trump’s motives

More people are implying that Russia has something on Trump. His behavior is certainly pro-Putin and anti-our allies. Why is he acting this way?

It’s frankly concerning that the President hasn’t made standing up to Russian aggression and securing our elections two of his top priorities. https://t.co/AoK7HuHMCR

— Mark Warner (@MarkWarner) July 15, 2018

After the NATO summit, G-7 meeting, and repeated efforts to disrupt the domestic politics of several individual allies (Germany, Canada, UK), Trump's behavior has reached the point where the issue is not whether, but why, he is determined to unravel the Western alliance. https://t.co/MU9HWwS5UV

— Ronald Brownstein (@RonBrownstein) July 15, 2018

So I was out walking the dogs all morning and came home to find out that Trump today called Europe our "foe." Almost a week after he said Russia wasn't our foe.

No wonder Putin is smiling.

— Joe Walsh (@WalshFreedom) July 15, 2018

I’m concerned we’re going to spend the week with, ‘Gee why won’t Trump stand up to Russia” headlines. fact: our POTUS is unequivocally behaving like a Russian asset. we need to deal w/ that openly and get beyond the ‘his behavior is odd’ phase

— Eric Boehlert (@EricBoehlert) July 15, 2018

Just watch: Trump will emerge from the Helsinki summit with some token concession from Putin and will take public credit for the illusory “win” while Putin secretly solidifies his US puppet’s value as an anti-EU, anti-NATO, pro-Assad, pro-Erdogan asset. All par for the course.
