Trump’s welfare reform plan does not consider transportation to work

Trump’s plan does not consider that those who need assistance have limited access to transportation.

Republicans in Maryland have already killed the Red Line in Baltimore that would have increased access to jobs through public transportation.

Here is an opinion column pointing out the racism in that decision.

This lengthy article discusses the history of transportation in Baltimore and its impact on white flight to the suburbs.

The Trump administration closed a complaint against cancellation of the Red Line with no explanation.

More background: “Allegations of racial discrimination linger, with civil rights activists noting state money designated for transit that would have served poor, African American communities went instead to road projects in rural, mostly white areas of the state.”

Trump’s controversial choice of a pastor to give the prayer at the embassy in Israel

The Washington Post provides background on Robert Jeffress.

Mitt Romney summed it up well:

More on Romney’s reaction

Trump is a bigot and associates with bigots.  This was a terrible choice.

Sad!

Update:  More on Jeffress and Rev. John Hagee

The article states: “A Dallas evangelical pastor who once said that Jewish people are going to hell and a megachurch televangelist who claimed that Hitler was part of God’s plan to return Jews to Israel both played prominent roles on Monday in the opening ceremony of the new American Embassy in Jerusalem.”

The Department of Education has stopped investigating fraud at for-profit colleges

This article discusses how the Department of Education has stopped investigating colleges where employees of DeVos had worked.

It states: “Members of a special team at the Education Department that had been investigating widespread abuses by for-profit colleges have been marginalized, reassigned or instructed to focus on other matters, according to current and former employees.

The unwinding of the team has effectively killed investigations into possibly fraudulent activities at several large for-profit colleges where top hires of Betsy DeVos, the education secretary, had previously worked.”

Sad!

A majority of Republicans think the FBI and DOJ are framing Trump

According to this poll, 61% of Republicans think the FBI and Department of Justice are framing Trump.  Only 7% of Democrats think that.

Here’s another poll on a similar question

A great column on our addiction to Trump

This is one of the best columns I have read this year.  It points out the media obsession with Trump.  It states:

“Yet I worry that our national nonstop focus on Trump is helping to usher America into a hole: a Trump obsession. The danger is that Trump sucks up all the oxygen, so that other issues don’t get adequate attention.”

Kristof is 100% right. The media does not focus enough on other issues.  The panel discussions are all in Washington and New York and don’t discuss the rest of the country enough.
