Frenchy Fuqua’s goldfish shoes

This is hardcore 1970’s stuff.

Pittsburgh Steelers running back John “Frenchy” Fuqua had shoes with goldfish in them!

Here’s a story with background:

from the interview:

Frenchy laughed. ”Then I get a call from a friend. ‘Frenchy,’ he says, ‘I got somethin’ real sweet for you.’ ” ‘What is it?’ ” ‘How would you like some shoes you can put goldfish in?’ ”I said, ‘Hey, I got an outfit for it.’ ”It was my count suit, with the musketeer hat and gold cane and lavender cape and my valet, which was Franco Harris, who carried the cape and never let it touch ground. And, oh yes, my wine-red knickers. That’s why I switched from goldfish to tropical fish. The tropical-fish colors went better with my outfits.
”The shoes were actually fiberglass clogs with three-inch heels. I had two fish in each shoe. They were a little slippery to walk in, being glass, so you’d have to hold on to a rail when you went down stairs. But my biggest problem was that the fish kept dying. I kept running and adding water, and that just got my socks wet. I experimented with a small pump that ran up my pants, but that was uncomfortable. Finally I gave up the fish but kept the shoes – and put in a terrarium.”

If Cohen is guilty, isn’t Trump guilty too?

Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to campaign finance law violations.

If he’s guilty, isn’t Trump guilty too?

I don’t think Cohen would have done this on his own without direction from Trump.

Cohen didn’t sleep with Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal, Trump did.

Would it be fair if Trump got laid and Cohen went to jail for it?

If Trump can’t be indicted while he is president, I hope he’s indicted as soon as he leaves office.  I have no doubt he’s a criminal.  To paraphrase his cult members, “Lock him up!”

Books: Fear

I recently read Fear by Bob Woodward on the early part of the Trump administration.  Woodward is excellent at digging out information and presenting it clearly.  His prose is bland but that’s fine – the book is about the subject, the writing.   It’s news writing prose, not fiction.

There’s lots of scary stuff – Trump is sure he is right even when presented with facts that contradict his opinion.  For example, he was insistent that Iran was in violation of the nuclear deal when they weren’t.  It sounds like it’s impossible to get him to change long-held beliefs.

The administration comes across as very disorganized.  I worked in the federal government (at much lower levels) for decades and we never had this kind of infighting and chaos.

Covers: Let’s Stick Together/Let’s Work Together

“Let’s Stick Together” was recorded by the song’s writer Wilbert Harrison in 1962.   He re-recorded it in 1969 as “Let’s Work Together” which was more successful.  Canned Heat covered the new song in 1970 – it’s in a current Amazon TV commercial.  Bryan Ferry covered “Let’s Stick Together” in 1976.  Dwight Yoakam covered “Let’s Work Together” in 1990.

The news media must do more to challenge false statements, not just report them

Make sure to look at Daniel Dale’s thread which includes the tweet below

Great tweet on Republicans calling anti-Kavanaugh protesters a mob

Trump said they included “very fine people”.
