Democrats need to focus on the issues

I agree with the ideas expressed by the people interviewed in this column.

From the article: “The DNC is doing a good job of winning New York and California,” said David Betras, the Democratic county party chair in Mahoning County, Ohio, home to Youngstown. “I’m not saying it’s not important — of course it’s important — but do they honestly think that people that were just laid off another shift at the car plant in my home county give a shit about Russia when they don’t have a frickin’ job?”

Trump’s hypocrisy

Trump blasted Clinton (and was correct) for having a private email server.  Now he’s doing something which has similar security issues.  Sad!

Spectrum Pop Festival 1969

The first concert I attended was the Spectrum Pop Festival in 1969.  I saw the Friday night show.  I went primarily to see the Mothers of Invention and Ten Years After but was most impressed by Sly and the Family Stone.  I saw them again at the Spectrum in 1971 (when Sly was still showing up on time or close).  They were so loud, they made the built-in hockey rink at the Spectrum vibrate!  The Jeff Beck Group must have included Rod Stewart then but I don’t remember him.  Savoy Brown didn’t show up.  Sets were about a half-hour with about another half hour in between performers.

For me, the highlights of the Woodstock film were Sly, Ten Years After, and Santana.  I was glad I got to see two of them in person just a few weeks earlier.

Disagreeing with you doesn’t make me unpatriotic

The Trump White House has said several times that people who disagree with them don’t love our country.

The column states: “It’s one thing to accuse the other side of playing politics on very serious matters and harming national security; it’s another to question whether they are acting in the interests of their country and how much they love their country.”

This is disgusting.  Just because I don’t agree with Trump and his supporters doesn’t make me any less patriotic.  There is room for disagreement without saying I am un-American if I don’t support Trump’s views.  This is just another dangerous authoritarian action.

Sad!

US colleges have problems getting foreign students because of Trump

US colleges are having a hard time attracting foreign students because of Trump.

The article states:

“Universities say they need to continue to attract the world’s brightest students for America to maintain its scientific edge. They argue foreign students often become important economic drivers, pointing to famous foreign-born entrepreneurs like Elon Musk, who grew up in South Africa and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. International students can also help with the bottom line, since they often pay full freight, and some universities charge them more to attend.”

Sad!
