New Washington Post poll

Democrats have a 10 percent lead in the generic congressional ballot.  That should be enough for them to win the House if it holds up.

From the Post article: “Two in 3 Americans say the president tells the truth only some of the time or hardly ever, a finding consistent across battleground and non-battleground districts. More than one third of all Americans say he hardly ever tells the truth.
Nearly half of all Americans (48 percent) say that, regardless of their personal feelings about the president, they think he is doing more to damage important values. Not quite 4 in 10 (37 percent) say he is doing more to protect those values.”

Polls show tariffs are unpopular except for his base

He only cares about his base.

49% believe Trump is a racist

This is no surprise to me.  It’s been obvious – Central Park Five, birther movement, “very fine people”, etc.  And that’s just bigotry against African-Americans.

I assume most of the 47% who don’t think he’s a bigot are Trump supporters.  All Trump supporters are:

  1. bigots or
  2. willing to tolerate bigotry to get tax cuts, conservative justices or other agenda items

I think many of Trump’s white Christian supporters don’t understand bigotry because they never experienced it.  They just tune Trump’s racism out because it doesn’t apply to them.

Generic ballot polls

The generic ballot is a poll based on the question of which party voters would support in a congressional election.  Because of gerrymandering, voter suppression, and concentration of Democratic voters in cities, Democrats need a big edge to win in Congress.  A new Quinnipiac poll has the Democrats at +9 but this has fluctuated and varied in other polls.

This won’t stop Republicans from destroying Roe v. Wade:

Kennedy’s retirement is bad for abortion rights

Legal abortion is in danger when Justice Kennedy is replaced by a more conservative justice.  Polling shows the majority of Americans favor legal abortions but Republicans only care about their agenda.

This article states: “As of 2017, public support for legal abortion remains as high as it has been in two decades of polling. Currently, 57% say abortion should be legal in all or most cases, while 40% say it should be illegal in all or most cases.”

It also states: “About two-thirds of Republicans (65%) say abortion should be illegal in all or most cases. By contrast, three-quarters (75%) of Democrats say abortion should be legal in all or most cases. Among independents, 60% say abortion should be legal in all or most cases.”
