Supreme Court will not decide on gerrymandering

This is a setback to fair elections for 2018 and 2020.  The Supreme Court understandably does not want to get into politics but they are letting unfair maps stand.

However, states can do things on their own:

The Texas case is different – based on race, not party affiliation.

Don’t forget what Trump wants to do to the 2020 Census:

Republican propaganda

This is scary stuff.

Trump endorses another bigot

Trump has now endorsed Corey Stewart who won the Republican primary for the Senate in Virginia.  He’s another extremist like Roy Moore.  Like Trump, he thought the bigots in Virginia included good people.  Even the Republicans in the Senate are not pushing this guy but Trump is.

New York Times Fact Check

The article states: “After the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville in August, when one of the participants drove into a crowd and killed a counterprotester, most Virginia politicians specifically condemned the white supremacists and neo-Nazis who had organized and marched in the event. But Mr. Stewart adopted similar language to President Trump, saying that “half the violence” was the fault of the counterprotesters, including “far-left nut cases.”
“People condemned all those far-right agitators, but no one seemed to condemn the left wing,” he told WTOP, a Washington radio station. “Clearly, half of that violence was committed by left-wingers.”
He denounced other Republicans for apologizing and condemning the violence, saying they were playing into liberals’ hands.”

Russia is meddling in the 2018 elections

Director of National Intelligence Coats (a Republican appointed by Trump) is concerned about Russian meddling in the 2018 midterm elections.

This article states:

“Russia is attempting to influence the midterm elections in the United States in November as well as divide the transatlantic alliance, US Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats warned at a meeting co-hosted by the Atlantic Council in Normandy, France, on June 8.

Coats said Russia had already undertaken an “unprecedented influence campaign to interfere in the US electoral and political process” in 2016. Russia, Coats pointed out, has also meddled in France, Germany, Norway, Spain, and Ukraine. “It is 2018, and we continue to see Russian targeting of American society in ways that could affect our midterm elections,” he said.”

There was no massive amount of illegal voting in New Hampshire

I expect Trump to claim there is voter fraud in the 2018 elections, especially in critical states for the House such as Pennsylvania and California.

What will the Supreme Court rule on gerrymandering?

This analysis reviews the possible outcomes of Supreme Court rulings on gerrymandering.

After discussing the options, it concludes:

“No matter how the court rules, here’s what we know already: People are increasingly paying attention to how districts are drawn, and they aren’t happy about it. If the court does strike down extreme partisan gerrymandering, the legal battles could continue for years. If the court sides with the gerrymandering states, opponents will try to change things outside the Supreme Court.”
