Trump is more emboldened to act on his own

As the current staff members leave, the replacements for them will be even worse.  Who would want to work in such chaos and backstabbing?  Has anyone who worked for the Trump White House and left come out better off from the experience?

A Republican former attorney general defends the Mueller investigation

In this column, Dick Thornburgh says: “I urge all members of Congress to become more vocal in their defense of the rule of law. Elected officials must stress unambiguously their support of the role of the special counsel and guard his right to pursue this investigation in a fair and impartial manner. Through whatever means members of Congress deem appropriate, they must defend the rule of law and the integrity of the special counsel’s mission.”

Democrats all agree but many Republicans support Trump’s claim that it is a witch hunt.

Trump’s made-up story that people in Houston watched the hurricane on boats

This is just more nonsense.  Is he lying or just ignorant?  He’s making stuff up.

He’s done this before.  The article reminds us: “This isn’t the first time the president has made comments that seemed bizarre or ill-informed. For example, he claimed without evidence millions of people voted illegally and inflated the number of people attending his inauguration and other rallies. He wrongly claimed to have seen Muslims in New Jersey celebrating the 9/11 attacks on television.”

HUD plan would raise rents for many poor people

This article discusses an analysis of HUD’s proposal to raise rents.

Some points from the article:

“Overall, the analysis shows that in the nation’s 100 largest metropolitan areas, low-income tenants — many of whom have jobs — would have to pay roughly 20 percent more each year for rent under the plan. That rent increase is about six times greater than the growth in average hourly earnings, putting the poorest workers at an increased risk of homelessness because wages simply haven’t kept pace with housing expenses.”

Update:

Democrats and Republicans see the economy very differently

Democrats and Republicans have very different views on the economy.

The article states: “Since the 2016 election, the partisan economic expectations gap—that is, the difference between Republicans’ and Democrats’ assessment of the economy’s direction—has widened to an unprecedented level, going from roughly 20 points during the presidencies of Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama to 56 points today. Democrats now expect an imminent recession, whereas Republicans anticipate a robust spell of growth to just keep going.”
