The answer to mass shootings is more guns?

Trump thinks teachers should be armed under certain conditions.  Is the answer to mass shootings really more guns?  Doesn’t this increase the risk of people getting hurt or killed?

If the police enter the school during a shooting and see someone with a gun, how do they know if it’s a teacher of the shooter?  Don’t you think the shooter will tell the police he is a teacher instead of admitting he’s the bad guy?

On the other hand, if a teacher said to me that they don’t feel safe in school and want to carry a gun, I would have a hard time telling them not to after what has happened.

The whole thing is a diversion from the real issues.  Sad!

Fact checks on Trump’s Pennsylvania speech

Trump said he got 52% of the women’s vote. He got 52% of the white women’s vote. I guess the other women don’t matter. Just another bigoted lie.

CNN’s column on the 64 most outrageous lines in the speech.

Trump questioned Maxine Waters’ intelligence.  I can understand why he is mad at her because she has called for his impeachment.  However, Trump singled her out even though 66 House Democrats voted for an impeachment resolution in January.  Just Trump being a racist.

The New York Times fact check on the speech.

Trump again misrepresented the results of recent special elections.

All in all, more lies, more bigotry, more attacks on people.  Sad!

The media helps Trump spread lies

The media helps Trump spread lies when they broadcast his speeches.  Sure, they correct some of it after the fact but the damage has already been done.

They won’t do it but I think the networks should show Trump’s speeches on a tape delay like they use to make sure curses are not broadcast.  They could edit out the lies and only broadcast the parts that were true.  Of course, that would make for some very short Trump speeches.

Trump has no incentive not to lie since the networks will spread his lies.  If they stopped broadcasting his lies, they would give him a reason to tell the truth – if he’s capable of it.  Sad!

Trump 2020 and TV coverage

Trump is already running for reelection in 2020.  He has filed paperwork, appointed a campaign manager, created a slogan and started fundraising.

I did not watch his speech in Pennsylvania on Saturday but I have read a lot about it and seen clips.  I would say it was mostly a 2020 campaign speech with the rest being a presidential speech (like when he talked about policy on drug dealers).  Accordingly, the Democrats should get equal time from the TV networks equivalent to the amount of time the speech was a reelection speech.  Otherwise, it is very unfair to the Democrats.

Trump is an expert at manipulating the TV networks to get more coverage.  He did this during the primary and general election and he’s doing it now.  Remember how the networks showed his speech in Florida with the Trump water and steaks?

Remember when he opened his hotel in Washington and added a few words at the end that admitted that Obama was born in the US?

Sad!

Trump backs down on guns

Trump is showing no presidential leadership on this issue.  His word is worthless because he changes his mind frequently.

I will give Trump credit for standing up to the NRA for one day.  That’s one more day than Ryan and McConnell ever will.  Sad!

Stormy Daniels

I think Trump would still have won the 2016 election even if we knew about Stormy Daniels before the voting.  Trump voters knew he was a liar, a bigot, was accused of attacking women, supported the birther movement, was in the “Access Hollywood video”, etc.  They still voted for him.  If they could overlook all of the other stuff, they could overlook Stormy Daniels.  This does need to be investigated to see if any election laws were violated.  The stories Trump’s lawyer has spread are ridiculous and at some point, I think we’ll hear the truth.  In this era of the Internet, everything becomes public eventually.

Yes, I know Hillary Clinton had the private email server.  She should have closed the Clinton Foundation before she became Secretary of State.  She supported Bill Clinton against his accusers – some or probably all told the truth. Still her moral failings are much smaller than Trump’s.  Sad!
