Calling a lie a lie

There are lots of tweets today on the issue of whether Trump’s lies should be called “lies”or something milder like “false statements”.  Tweeters criticized the media for not calling his statements lies when they are untrue.

Some of the issues raised by those who don’t want to call them lies are:

  • we don’t know his intentions
  • he believes the stuff he says

I think he is a pathological liar and he wins if his lies are not called lies.  If he believes this crap, that’s a big problem too.  All politicians lie but this is not normal and we can’t forget that.

Here are some of the best tweets I saw today:

An easily disproven Trump lie

Trump said the New York Times made up a source in an article on North Korea.

A newer article about Trump’s lie states:

“It is not clear whether the president was simply unaware of the actions of his own senior staff or if he knowingly ignored the truth. The source of that sentence was a White House official who held a briefing on Thursday afternoon in the White House briefing room that was attended by about 50 reporters, with about 200 or so more on a conference call.

Reporters often request such briefings to be on the record, which would allow the official to be named. But, in this case, the rules of the briefing imposed by the White House required that the official be referred to only as a “senior White House official.” The Times is continuing to abide by that agreement.”

This is really pathetic.  Dozens of people were there.  This is just an easily disproven lie. It’s just part of his efforts to discredit the news media.  I despise Trump for many reasons but lies and bigotry are the top two.

Sad!

Many Republicans believe in massive voter fraud

This article cites a poll that indicates that “Forty-eight percent of Republicans said they believe between 3 million and 5 million people voted illegally in 2016.”

Even “Just under one-quarter of Democrats said they believed the allegations that millions of votes were cast illegally…”

The article links to a Quinnipiac poll from 2017 (question 78).

The poll found that 50% of Republicans, 24% of Independents, and 14% of Democrats believed there were 3-4 million illegal votes.

For more background on why this theory is nonsense, read this.

I am concerned that Trump will again claim there were illegal votes if the Democrats win the House and/or Senate this year.  Trump has already said recently there were millions of illegal votes in California and there are false claims of illegal votes in Pennsylvania.  These are the two states most critical for Democrats to gain seats in to win the House.  I am afraid Trump will try to invalidate the results if the Democrats win.  This is what his dictator pals would do.

Sad!

Trump has held very few solo news conferences

I can’t remember the last time Trump did a TV interview that wasn’t on Fox News.

Sad!
