Bill Walton’s wild baseball broadcast
Walton says crazy stuff about baseball, not just basketball. He said Mike Trout was swimming upstream when he hit a home run! It’s obvious his mind is gone from listening to too many Grateful Dead records.
Trump uses presidential events for political speeches
His campaign, not taxpayers, should pay for his travel and events. He almost always injects politics into what should be a non-partisan presidential speech. We can go back to the beginning of his presidency when he did this at the CIA and Boy Scouts appearances. He has not changed and won’t change. I hope he is sued and his campaign has to pay.

Trump is damaging the economy
The tax cuts didn’t provide long term help and mostly benefitted rich people.
Trump either doesn’t understand tariffs or lies about them. Americans pay for the increased cost of Chinese goods, not China.
He has made poor choices for advisors.
He will blame the Federal Reserve and the media if there is a recession and is casting doubt on stats that don’t support his lies.
Trump is focusing on mental illness so he won’t offend the NRA
Originally, he said he was supporting of background checks (like about 90% of the public). Now, he has caved in again to the gun lobby and is blaming shootings on mental illness. Doing this also means he doesn’t have to deal with the issue of white supremacists and his role in inspiring them with his hateful rhetoric. Sad!
Trump’s allegation of 2016 voter fraud will undermine confidence in 2020 results.
He’s getting his cult ready to consider the 2020 results invalid if he loses. His claims of fraud in New Hampshire and California are baseless lies. Republicans should step up to defend our elections but they won’t. They won’t support legislation to increase election security because they have benefitted from Russian interference.
Toni Morrison
Toni Morrison was one of America’s greatest authors. I haven’t read all of her books but of the ones I have read, I would start with Sula or Jazz. Song of Solomon is great, too.
This is the trailer for an excellent film about Morrison. It’s on DVD. She is surprisingly funny and very entertaining. She looks right into the camera – it’s like she’s talking to us. Highly recommended,
Increasing frequency of Trump’s lies

I wrote these comments on the Washington Post web site today:
Trump’s lies are increasing because there are no bad consequences. His cult believes him, Republican politicians are scared to contradict him, and Democrats can’t make him stop. The media is doing better at calling his statements lies but he wins every time they don’t. Trump wins when they call his racist statements “racially charged”. He knows that nobody in the media will directly call him a liar to his face.
Some voters are cynical about politicians; they don’t see the difference in volume between Trump’s lies and those by other politicians.
The lies are also increasing because he now has almost three years in office to lie about.
I am very concerned about the 2020 general election. Trump will tell lots of lies and the Democratic candidate will be mostly truthful.
What’s going to happen in a debate? Let’s say Trump says the Democrats want to repeal the Second Amendment. If the moderator says that’s not true, they will be accused of bias. If the Democrat says it’s a lie, it will take away time they need to present programs on issues like guns, racism, climate change, etc.
